About the Team

Nadav Gilboa (Creator & Lead Organizer)                is a rising 8th-grade student at Community Day School. His main interests are fantastical societies with new constructs, board games in which the best strategy wins, traveling anywhere he’s never been before, and sports that require individual competition but happen as part of a team. The second of four brothers, he likes to stand out from a crowd.

In early 2017 Nadav found himself with a problem – adults don’t take kids seriously. Noticing that kids his age actually discuss big ideas like sexism, racism, poverty, climate change, with excellent answers, he also saw that they had a problem. Adults weren’t listening to them either. And so TEDxYouth@BlueSlidePark was born – a forum for kids and adults to talk about the world we’re creating. And chance after chance for adults to see the contributions kids can make to that future, starting now.

Deborah Gilboa (Organizer) is Nadav’s mom. She’s also a family physician and a parenting and youth development expert. Her work amplifies the message that kids are capable of doing a lot more for themselves than we’re letting them do.  Which means she knows that the best plan is to let Nadav do most of the work himself, because that’s the way he’ll learn the most and not get his ideas trampled. She’s got a website,  wrote a couple of books and she does TV spots talking about kids and families.

Jen Carl (Tech Guru) helped build our website and will handle all the behind the scenes tech stuff. Her day job is a virtual assistant and digital marketing strategist where she helps other entrepreneurs grow their businesses. She is excited to be a part of this project.

When not working, she enjoys spending time with her son.

About TEDx

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDx[name], where x = independently organized TED event. At our TEDx Youth Blue Slide Park event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
